What is RSS? |

A healthy, nourished population depends on strong research and education programs in human nutrition. NIFA, in partnership with the Cooperative Extension System, delivers community-based nutrition education programs that help individuals, families, and communities make informed choices about food and lifestyles that support their physiological health, economic, and social well-being. The programs also provide policymakers with the knowledge to make appropriate policies for our citizens. NIFA sponsors nutrition-related research conducted through multistate projects and projects funded through the Hatch Act and the National Research Initiative.

In Focus

• The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) helps low-income families improve diets for better health, increase physical activity, and save money.
• SNAP-Ed is a federal/state partnership that supports nutrition education for persons eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
• Four broad program areas--food security, food safety, dietary guidance, and health--are the foundation of NIFA nutrition education programs.
• An interactive map provides easy access to names and contact information for family and consumer science administrators across the US and its territories.
• Research supports nutrition education on various factors influencing food choices.
• Priester National Health Conference highlights programs and research developed and implemented around leading health indicators and focus areas.

Partners/Partnership

• NIFA partners with America On The Move®, a national initiative, to help Americans improve their health and quality of life.
• NIFA partners with the USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center, which investigates the role of maternal, infant and child nutrition on health.
• NIFA partners with Multistate Regional Committees to share nutrition resources and improve food choices and evaluation methods.
