CyberSeniors CyberTeens Program
CSREES provides national leadership to and
helped fund the CyberSeniors CyberTeens Program,
involving CyberSeniors, a not-for-profit
organization providing Web navigation training
to more than 15,000 seniors in 14 states.
Other partners include Oregon State University,
state and local 4-H youth organizations,
the AARP National Retired Teachers Association,
and veterans groups. The partnership has
established intergenerational leadership
teams that provide information technology
learning opportunities in their communities.
The initiative is intended to empower millions
of seniors and veterans across the nation
with information technology skills. The CyberSeniors
CyberTeens Web site provides links to
photo and video clips that describe the nationwide
program.
Annually, 5,000 teens recruit and train
15,000 seniors to join their community cyberskill
building efforts. Training focuses on helping
tech-savvy teens become effective communicators
in working with seniors. The life-savvy seniors
trade life skills learning back to the teens
for their help in learning technology skills.
In 2004-2005, CyberHealth, a bilingual,
community-based interactive health literacy
program, is being launched to help seniors
use computers to obtain, interpret, and understand
basic health information and resources available
to them on the Internet. Call toll-free 888-676-6622
