Report on Federal Manufacturing R&D Priorities
A new government report outlines three areas of opportunity for manufacturing R&D, including nanotechnology, and describes critical manufacturing technology issues that need to be addressed in each area in order to make progress. Manufacturing the Future: Federal Priorities for Manufacturing R&D, was produced by the National Science and Technology Council's (NSTC) Interagency Working Group on Manufacturing R&D.
The NSTC is an Executive Branch cabinet-level council through which the President coordinates science, space, and technology policies across the Federal Government. Two CSREES staffers -- Hongda Chen and Karen Hunter -- served on the interagency working group that produced the report.
The report also describes Federal activities in the three areas and current and planned collaborative efforts. Finally, the report provides an overview of important cross-cutting issues that affect R&D for all three areas.
