Plant Breeding Genomics Workshop

A workshop on association genetics and marker-assisted selection (MAS) is scheduled for June 16-18, 2008, at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN.  The workshop is organized by Gary Muehlbauer, associate professor at the University of Minnesota and project director for the Barley Coordinated Agricultural Project (CAP).

The workshop will cover quality trait loci mapping approaches, genome wide association mapping, and strategies for MAS.  Presentations by Kevin Smith and Rex Bernardo, University of Minnesota; Jean-Luc Jannink, USDA–Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Ithaca, NY; and Shiaoman Chao, USDA–ARS, Fargo, ND, are planned.  A limited number of $500 student stipends will be provided. More information and registration forms are available on the Barley CAP Web site.

This workshop will facilitate the development of superior cultivars and access to agronomic and economically important genes by integrating and utilizing state-of-the-art genomic tools and approaches in plant breeding programs.
