Republic of Nigeria Development Project, 2001-2004
Starting in 2001, CSREES assisted the government of Nigeria in achieving agricultural sustainability through capacity building and technical assistance training. More than 400 Nigerians received training in agricultural philosophies under a train-the-trainer concept that enhanced Nigeria 's agriculture and economic growth. Workshops were conducted in marketing; post-harvest handling; and agricultural business development, planning, and management.
The success of this program can be attributed to several factors:
- Funding support provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development.
- Coordination and administrative assistance furnished by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
- The transfer and application of agricultural technologies delivered by USDA in collaboration with the land-grant universities.
