Web-based Nutrition Education Evaluation and Reporting System (WebNEERS)
Frequently Asked Questions: WebNEERS
Will there be a user manual for WebNEERS?
Yes. Clemson University is developing a user manual for WebNEERS.
When will training on WebNEERS be offered? Who will be trained?
Training will be offered by the federal office beginning in July. It will be for Institution level users. During the training Institution users will gain access to a test environment for WebNEERS. The test environment will be available for Institution users to learn the new system and to train their regional (county) staff. Information about training dates and registration will be sent via the NEERS5 listserv in June. Options for dates and times will accommodate all Institution level users.
When do we need to start using the WebNEERS?
All Institutions will be required to submit their FY2013 data through WebNEERS.CRS5 data will be migrated into WebNEERS in November. This will occur after the FY2012 reporting period has ended/the FY2012 data has been submitted. Institutions can begin transitioning into the new system as soon as their data is migrated. Institutions are encouraged to have their counties graduate participants before the end of the fiscal year, if possible. This will make data migration easier.
Will we still have access to our raw data to do additional analyses?
Yes, WebNEERS will have a function for regional users to export their data into a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file. Personally identifiable information will be removed prior to the export. A CSV file can be opened in Excel or imported into statistical analysis software such as SAS or SPSS.
Can we use WebNEERS for EFNEP and SNAP-Ed?
If you use NEERS5 for EFNEP and SNAP-Ed you will be able to use WebNEERS in that same way, but you will need to create separate regions (formerly known as units/counties in CRS5) for SNAP-Ed data. We are exploring ways to make WebNEERS available more broadly to SNAP-Ed users at Land-Grant Universities.
Are the 10 core questions for the adult behavior checklist going to change?
Yes, but not in FY2013. WebNEERS will be released with the existing behavior checklist questions and we will use these questions for at least the first year. The federal office received recommendations from the Behavior Checklist Committee and is reviewing them. Any changes will be implemented at the start of a new reporting period. The earliest this will happen is FY2014.
How do we add new questions to the federal list of additional checklist questions for adults?
At this time you cannot add questions to the federal list of additional checklist questions for adults. But, WebNEERS has a new feature which will allow you to develop Institution level questions for Adults and for Youth. These questions can be added to your additional question sets. In the future WebNEERS will include an option to submit questions developed at the Institution level to the federal office for inclusion in the federal list of additional questions.
Will demographic data for youth be tied to youth evaluation information?
No. Demographic data for youth will still be collected as a group. You will not be able to tie demographic information to youth evaluations.
When will the forms for the youth evaluation question sets be available?
The Youth Evaluation Committee is working on the forms for the youth evaluation question sets. They are currently cognitively testing both the appearance of the forms and the wording of the questions. The questions we shared over the listserv are the final questions, but the wording may be tweaked depending on the results of the cognitive testing. The committee hopes to have the forms finalized and available to everyone in August.
Do we have to ask all questions for a given age range?
Yes. However, we recognize some Institutions currently teach on specific topics and may need time to adjust to a more holistic approach. As such, we understand if you are not able to provide full youth impact data the first 2 years (FY2013 & FY2014).
How soon do we need to implement the new youth evaluation tool?
Our expectation is that all Institutions will report youth evaluation in full by the 3rd year, FY2015. This will give universities time to transition their programs and to train staff, if needed
