4-H Youth Development
More than 6.5 million youth, ages 5-19, participate
in 4-H Youth Development experiences in all
50 U.S. states, its territories, and U.S.
Army installations worldwide.
4-H Youth Development is the largest nonformal
U.S. youth development program that ties
public and private resources to the single
purpose of supporting the positive and successful
development of youth. According to a 2-year
study in New York, young people who participate
in 4-H do better in school and are more motivated
to help others. According to the study, these
young people develop skills in leadership,
public speaking, self-esteem, communication
and planning, and make lasting friendships.
The National
4-H Headquarters official Web site has
detailed information about this program.
