Extension Volunteers
Volunteers are essential to the successful
delivery of 4-H programs to youth. The value
of the time, mileage, and out-of-pocket expenses
that the 572,834 volunteer leaders contribute
to 4-H annually exceeds $2 billion—five
times the combined county, state, federal,
and private sector support.
Today 4-H can claim:
- 434,293 adult leaders.
- 128,630 junior teen leaders.
- 562,923 volunteers working directly with
youth (adult and junior teen leaders combined).
- 139,896 board and committee volunteers.
- 31,015 middle managers working with youth
and adult volunteers.
- 243,430 volunteers trained in leadership.
- 55,683 volunteers trained in parenting.
- 123,046 volunteers trained in other topics.

development programs:

Voices is an award-winning, hands-on
leadership development curriculum conducted
by North Carolina A&T State University.
It is designed to build skills and increase
involvement by limited-resource and other
nontraditional audiences in community
problem solving.

Management Certificate Program at
Washington State University is an award-winning,
online learning experience that provides
education and training in critical skills
essential to recruiting, training, and
managing volunteers.
