Presidential Proclamation—Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month
In a recent presidential proclamation, President Obama declared June 2011 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, citing that all Americans deserve to live with dignity and fairness under the law regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This observance is intended to celebrate the efforts of those who have fought for equal rights, so that the promise of freedom and the pursuit of happiness can be fulfilled by all people in the United States. President Obama articulated his efforts to make the federal workplace a fair and inclusive workplace by implementing nondiscrimination policies that include zero tolerance for discrimination in the workplace. The proclamation also encourages all people to eliminate injustice and prejudice everywhere it exists.
