Evans-Allen 1890 Research Formula

Purpose

Evans-Allen 1890 Research Formula grants link science and technology development directly to emerging needs and interests, foster regional and national joint planning, and encourage multi-state planning and program implementation. Funding from this program supports 1890 land-grant institutions in conducting basic and applied research to: ensure a safe, economical and adequate food supply; promote a sustainable environment; conserve natural resources; and contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic well-being and overall quality of life of diverse rural and urban people. The program also supports research training of future scientists and educators. Research is multi-institutional, multi-state and stakeholder driven.

Eligibility

Only 1890 land-grant institutions are eligible to receive funds through this program.

Targeted Areas of Support

  • Agriculture (including soil and water conservation and use)
  • Plant and animal production, protection, and health
  • Processing, distributing, marketing, and use of food and agricultural products
  • Forestry, including range management and range projects, multiple use of forest and rangelands, and urban forestry
  • Aquaculture
  • People, communities, and institutions (rural and community development)

Awards

Funding to the 1890 land-grant institutions is formula based. State matching funds are required.

Funding

The funding for Fiscal Year 2006 is estimated at $36,704,000.

Results and Impacts

This program encourages science and technology development relating directly to emerging needs and interests, fostering regional and national joint planning, and encouraging multi-state planning and program implementation.
