Public Issues Education
Booklet
"Public
Issues Education: Increasing Competence,
Enabling Communities" is a booklet
to strengthen the capacity of extension
educators, administrators, and others to
provide education on pressing and emerging
public issues. CSREES staff participated
in the planning and writing and provided
initial funds to develop the publication
in 2002.
The information presented in the booklet
is intended to guide the development of materials
and programs for training extension professionals
in public issues education. This booklet
expands on other extension publications to
further enhance efforts to help citizens
engage in public issues and make sound public
choices amid uncertainty and conflict. It
is meant to be used as a foundation from
which to improve the practice of public issues
education.
It describes the principles and values that
govern public issues education as well as
the essential competencies of effective public
issues educators. It is the hope of the Public
Issues Education Competencies Task Force
that this booklet becomes a catalyst for
increasing the knowledge, skills, and abilities
of extension professionals in public issues
education nationwide.
