International Beef Marketing Web Site
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension's Beef Web site was built to help producers understand the process for enrolling calves in a Processed Verified Program (PVP) or a Quality Systems Assessment (QSA) program. These programs are increasingly important given that back verification will not be an alternative in the future.
The International Beef Marketing Web site has a series of useful educational materials, seminars, factsheets, and links. The featured seminar video reviews the importance and opportunities associated with international beef marketing, and explains how to enroll cattle in PVP and QSA programs and evaluate those opportunities. The focus is on verifying
- age;
- source;
- non-hormone treated cattle for export to the European Union; and
- antibiotic-free or natural cattle.
The materials also discuss the marginal benefits and costs associated with participating in these programs. For example, University of Nebraska animal scientists explain the performance and cost differences associated with having cattle not receive antibiotics. The Web site also lists university and industry resources, as well as links to related information from USDA.
