Southern Region Sources

This is a representative list of possible funding sources for personal finance research and education for states within the Southern Region. Application deadlines and funding availability varies by source.   Consult the web link for more information.

  • Abney Foundation - Makes grants for innovative and creative projects and to programs responsive to changing community needs. Agencies applying for funds should be serving the citizens of South Carolina.

  • First Nations Development Institute - Provides technical and financial resources to tribes and Native non-profit organizations to support asset-based development efforts that fit within the culture and are sustainable.

  • MacArthur Foundation - Focuses on work that crosses traditional boundaries and categories, especially work that explicitly relates research, social policy, and practice, bringing each into the service of the others. Available in Chicago, IL and Palm Beach County FL areas.

  • Marquerite Casey Foundation - The Foundation focuses grant making on three areas: Education, Advocacy, and Activism. The target populations include lower income families, rural and urban communities of color and children and youth, ages 6-24. The areas covered include: California and the Southwest, including the U.S./Mexico border, Southern Belt states and the Midwest, beginning in Illinois.

  • Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation - Helps people and communities in the Southeast become more economically secure through enterprise and asset development. Focused on NC, SC, AL, GA, TN, VA, LA, MS, East AR, Northern and Central FL, Appalachian regions of West Virginia and Kentucky.

  • Providian Cares - Contributions are primarily directed to the following areas: Child Care and Consumer Financial Literacy. Priority will be given to requests whose primary purpose is to benefit low- and moderate-income individuals. These communities include: California (Oakland, Pleasanton, San Francisco); Kentucky (Louisville); New Hampshire (Belmont, Concord, Tilton); Texas (Arlington, Austin, El Paso, San Antonio); Utah (Salt Lake City).

  • Wells Fargo - Company focus is on improving and sustaining local communities. Conditions vary state to state, however most focus on three primary areas; community development, education and human services.

  • USBancorp - Provides cash contributions to nonprofit organizations in three priority areas: affordable housing and economic opportunity, education/artistic and cultural enrichment. Available in all areas except for the North East.
