Iowa Hoop Barn Project
CSREES is funding the Hoop
Barn Project in Iowa, which is investigating
alternative housing for swine. Iowa State
University researchers, using CSREES grant
funds, have evaluated the feasibility of
using hoop barns in Iowa as total pork
production systems. Researchers have focused
on pig management, environmental management,
pig behavior, and farmer perceptions, and
they will extend their considerations of
hoop barn application to other species,
such as beef cattle.
