Multistate Research Projects in Animal Reproduction

CSREES engages with state and regional research committees through its Multistate Research Program. Below are some examples of current multistate research projects in animal reproduction:

• Methods to Increase Reproductive Efficiency in Cattle (NC-1006) designs, tests, and optimizes systems for artificial insemination in beef and dairy cattle.

• Enhancing Reproductive Efficiency in Poultry (S-1020) proposes to study animal behavior, development and application of genomic and proteomic tools to study the reproductive biology of poultry, and conduct applied nutrition research in breeder populations of poultry.

• Germ Cell and Embryo Development and Manipulation for the Improvement of Livestock (W-1171) studies fertilization and embryonic development.

• Swine Reproductive Physiology (NCR057) provides an opportunity for information exchange and technology transfer regarding reproduction in swine.

• Ovarian and Environmental Influences on Embryonic/Fetal Mortality in Ruminants (NE-1007) focuses on endocrine manipulation of ovarian follicular development and luteal function.

• Genetic Selection and Crossbreeding to Enhance Reproduction and Survival of Dairy Cattle (S-1008) seeks to develop selection tools to enhance reproduction and survival using field data and explore the impact of crossbreeding on the lifetime performance of cows.

• Reproductive Performance in Domestic Ruminants (W-112) strives to provide scientific and technical expertise to support and encourage development, acceptance, and application of technology-based management tools that will improve the productivity and profitability of livestock producers in the West.
