Overview

One of the most pressing issues faced by plant and animal producers is to adapt to the ever-changing conditions and impacts of global change and climate on their crops or animals. Another critical issue is the need for scientific information that producers can use to plan and make decisions to ensure economic viability. CSREES-supported global change and climate projects are addressing these issues through research, extension, and education activities.

• CSREES helped organize a national conference on climate change focusing on science and solutions.

Partnerships

• CSREES collaborates with NOAA to fund the Southeast Climate Consortium, providing agriculture, forestry, and water resources management decision support tools.
• CSREES funds the Agricultural Development in the American Pacific project, advancing the viability and security of Pacific island agriculture and communities.
• CSREES funds the Consortium for Agricultural Soils Mitigation of Greenhouse Gases (CASMGS), which develops best management practices on carbon sequestration.

• Using CSREES funds, Michigan Technological University researchers are developing a model to simulate carbon allocation within north Michigan forest ecosystems.
• Washington State University researchers are using CSREES funding to discover the relationship between wind driven soil formation, global change and agriculture.
• Thanks to CSREES funds, Rutgers University researchers are conducting regional studies of convective storms and precipitation anomalies in the Northeastern US.
