Small Business Innovation Research Success Stories
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program is a congressionally mandated, government-wide program funding competitive research and development grants and contracts for small businesses (less than 500 employees) developing products, processes and services for diverse communities. Companies apply for Phase I feasibility studies, which may be followed by Phase II research and development projects. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - SBIR Program, administered by CSREES, funds approximately 90 Phase I feasibility grants and 35-40 Phase II research and development grants annually. Historically, approximately 50% of the Phase II projects go on to realize success in the form of commercialization and sales.
The USDA-SBIR Program is proud of its support of small business research and development. Below we showcase selected projects that have reached some level of success and commercialization. Projects are selected as USDA-SBIR Success Stories as the information about commercialization activities becomes known to the USDA-SBIR Program
Companies that have received a USDA-SBIR grant and have moved the research and development forward into commercialization are encouraged to contact us at to discuss adding your success story to the USDA-SBIR Web site.
