Program Synopsis: Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers (OASDFR) Program
Program Synopsis
The Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers program (OASDFR) delivers outreach and technical assistance to:
- assure opportunities for socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers to successfully acquire, own, operate, and retain farms and ranches, and
- assure equitable participation in the full range of USDA programs.
OASDFR supports outreach and assistance activities in farm and financial management, marketing, application and bidding procedures, and other areas.
Proposed projects may:
- encourage use of outreach and assistance networks to increase participation in USDA and other programs;
- enhance the potential for farm and ranch ownership by developing or modifying farm and ranch management (including marketing) and financial management curricula and materials;
- develop innovative delivery systems to improve the effectiveness of OASDFR programs; or
- create new or improve existing methods to provide assistance to the targeted audiences.
Standard projects that incorporate multiple collaborators, particularly community-based collaborators, are encouraged. Applicants are also encouraged to coordinate with existing regional projects to complement pertinent and relevant cross-regional activities.
Projects are funded from $100,000 to $300,000 for 1 to 3 years. Approximately 30-40 percent of the submitted proposals have received awards during the program's history. Approximately $5.9 million will be available for FY 2006 funding.
