Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Foundational Program: Animal Health and Production and Animal Products
Animal production and health play critical roles in the sustainability and competitiveness of U.S. agriculture. They contribute significantly to the nations economy, global food production and food security. Our competitiveness depends on understanding the critical biological and physical mechanisms underlying nutrition, growth, reproduction, and health in livestock, poultry, equine, and aquacultured species. Research at the genomic, molecular, cellular and organ systems levels is essential.
Animal production and health play a critical role in the sustainability and competitiveness of U.S. agriculture. We need to expand our knowledge using basic and applied research to reduce production and health costs, enhance nutritional quality of animal products, and minimize environmental impacts. Single-function Research Projects and Food and Agricultural Science Enhancement (FASE) Grants are expected to address one of the Program Area Priorities in the Animal Health and Production and Animal Products area(see Foundational Program RFA for details).
