Plant and Pest Biology Stakeholder Workshop 2007
On November 20, 2007, NIFA sponsored a workshop on stakeholder priorities in the area of plant and pest biology in Alexandria, VA. The workshop -- attended by scientific societies, commodity groups, and other organizations -- allowed stakeholders to present their research, education, and extension priorities into one or more of the following six NIFA Strategic Goals:

Enhance the Competitiveness and Sustainability of Rural and Farm Economies

Support Increased Economic Opportunities and Improved Quality of Life in Rural America

Enhance Protection and Safety of the Nation's Agriculture and Food Supply

Protect and Enhance the Nation's Natural Resource Base and Environment
Dr. Anna Palmisano, former NIFA Deputy Administrator for Competitive Programs, and Dr. Liang-Shiou Lin, National Program Leader for Plant Biology, facilitated discussion sessions on plant and pest biology topics. The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) helped coordinate the workshop.
