The NP104 Veterinary, Medical, and Urban Entomology Workshop

The Veterinary, Medical, and Urban Entomology Rresearch Program Stakeholder Workshop was held October 30 November 1, 2007 in Denver, CO. The workshop provided NIFA and ARS stakeholders, customers, and partners with the opportunity to participate in planning the direction of the national research program for the next five years. The workshop was co-sponsored by USDA's Agricultural Research Service and NIFA.

The agenda included sessions on:

    • medical entomology;
    • livestock entomology;
    • fire ants;
    • termites; 
    • chemicals affecting haematophagous arthropod behavior;
    • cyclorrhaphous Diptera (stable flies, horn flies, filth flies);
    • invasive species; and,
    • geographic information systems.

Attendees included commodity group representatives, manufacturers of entomological products, veterinarians, public health personnel, researchers, and others who may benefit from USDA research. More extensive summary information will be available in the future.
