Planning, Accountability and Reporting Staff
The NIFA Planning, Accountability and Reporting Staff provides leadership to the agency in strategic planning, performance measurement, and evaluation. The agency uses these activities to improve program leadership and management, allocation of resources, and evaluation of success. Specific responsibilities in this regard include:
OPA provides leadership in standard and formula grant reporting and in using information submitted from grant reporting in preparing various technical, statistical, budgetary, and performance reports. In consultation with other NIFA offices and NIFA’s grantees, OPA sets policies and procedures regarding standard and formula grant reporting. OPA also provides leadership for defining requirements for ISTM in building and managing reporting systems. OPA is the convener of the NIFA Classification Board, which maintains the classification system used by NIFA’s reporting systems.

Other OPA responsibilities include the NIFA review of multi-state research projects (see NIMSS, a system run by the regional associations of agricultural experiment station directors, for more information) and intellectual property reporting and issues. In support of the Associate Director, the director of OPA coordinates the assignment of national program leaders for institutional (program) reviews.
