| Overview |
 |
In the areas of bioproducts and bioenergy, NIFA works to support sustainable biomass production; genomic improvements of bioenergy feedstocks; the logistics of handling feedstocks; biomass conversion; product development; programs that facilitate and clarify land-use changes resulting from feedstock productio; and the identification of the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of biofuels production in rural communities.
NIFA bioenergy and bioproducts activities are managed within the NIFA Institute of Bioenergy, Climate and Environment's Division of Bioenergy. It is committed to supporting the development of regional systems for sustainable production of bioenergy and the development of biobased products. The division works to implement dedicated regional energy crop systems that materially deliver liquid transportation biofuels to help meet the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 goal of 36 billion gallons/year of biofuels by 2022 and reduce US dependence on foreign oil.
